A small group of volunteers, through the charitable group called Medical Imaging Ministries of the Americas (MIMAs) is bringing ultrasound to remote areas of Peru. The people who work in the local clinics are trained using a new ultrasound paradigm called Volume Sweep Imaging (VSI). A series of images are compressed and transmitted to a PACs system, by which the cases are read and the results sent back to the clinics. The result is that medical imaging becomes accessible to parts of the world that otherwise are still practicing medicine using only signs and symptoms for diagnosis. The picture below shows the first few people trained at the clinic of Angoteros through the hospital system of Santa Clotilde.
